Recommendations
for Masters Programmes and Continuing Education Modules
Within the timescales commonly available
for undergraduate programmes it will never be possible to teach
all the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding which are
required to practise and undertake scholarship in landscape architecture.
For this reason it will be essential to develop concepts for a range
of masters’ programmes. These will need to be both at a general
professional level, building on the subject areas treated in the
undergraduate programmes and rounding off the basic education for
landscape architecture practice, as well as specialist masters programmes,
allowing students or professionals to acquire further skills and
understanding within specific areas. Outline structures for a range
of masters’ programmes will be developed to encourage individual
schools or consortia to develop their contents in more detail, allowing
the limited personnel resources within Europe’s landscape
schools to work together to be able to offer the maximum range of
programmes, with an optimal geographic distribution across the continent.
A similar approach will be developed with regard to the needs of
practice for short courses for continuing professional development.
