Journal of Landscape Architecture
Journal of Landscape Architecture
The foundation of a new European academic landscape architecture journal has long been a goal of the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools.
This ambition began to take on a more concrete form as the LE:NOTRE Project developed, and a provisional editorial group was set up. For the Dissemination Project, 'LE:NOTRE PLUS' the establishment of a peer-reviewed journal was defined as one of the specific project outputs. After the discussion of many possible titles, the name of the new publication was agreed as 'Journal of Landscape Architecture', and discussions with the professional European landscape architecture journal 'Topos' led to an offer to publish the new journal as a 'sister' publication. The format developed for JoLA aims to balance the demands of a peer-reviewed academic journal with the expectations of a planning and design discipline. As well as classical academic articles and book reviews, it contains both a visual essay and a project critique section 'Under the Sky'. The international five person editorial team has been officially appointed by ECLAS and they have, in turn, recommended an editorial board. Journal of Landscape Architecture will initially be published twice a year, and the first edition of JoLA appeared in Spring 2006. The autumn 2006 edition is expected shortly. The LE:NOTRE TWO Project will continue its support for JoLA through the development of a new website for the journal, which will aim to make the contents of JoLA available on-line to students and researchers at ECLAS member schools and to other subscribers. The JoLA website can be accessed at www.jola-lab.eu, where information for subscribers and authors can also be found.
